INSTRUMENT OF ESTABLISHMENT
The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria was established by Decree (now Act) No.55  of 1988 (Cap 7, Laws of Nigeria, 1990).  as amended by Decree (now Act) No. 92 of 1993. However, the Council was officially inaugurated on November 14, 1989 by former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh. This marked the birth of (APCON) as a principal actor in the Nigerian advertising scene. more.
REGULATION
What do we regulate? : Advertising

All advertisements for products listed as Controlled Products must receive the pre-exposure vetting and approval of the Advertising Standards Panel. Those listed as General Goods/Services may be presented for vetting, but care must be exercised to make their advertisements conform with the provisions of the Code of Advertising Practice and the laws. more.

APCON asks OAAN to clear Disorder in Outdoor Scene
Following the highly noticeable ugly faces of posters and bill boards as well as disorder in the siting of outdoor hoardings, the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has directed the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), a sectorial body under the council to to step up the enforcement of APCON's rules on outdoor hoardings.more
