TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID DELAY IN PROCESSING YOUR APPLICATION

  1. Give your full name, address and date of birth where required.
  2. Attach copies of relevant academic certificates and other documents in support of entries in your application, e.g. marriage certificate, change of name, etc.
  3. It is compulsory that you attach a copy of your NYSC discharge certificate or certificate of exemption issued by the organisation.
  4. While listing places of work, endeavour to exercise caution as alterations may not be tolerated; we suggest that you fill out the section with a pencil, make the necessary corrections and then send the final entry forms in ink.
  5. Kindly apply with the appropriate form:
    1. Student Membership form at N500.00
    2. Upgrading form (applicable to student members deemed qualified to proceed to associate membership, and associate membership considered qualified for consideration as full members). While Student members pay N500.00 each for the form, Associate members are required to obtain theirs for N1,000.
  6. Referees:
    1. Submit names and full addresses of three referees whom you are sure would respond in good time.
    2. Kindly ensure that at least one of your referees is the chief executive of your present place of employment.
    3. As required by law, your CEO is expected to be a registered advertising practitioner; it is advisable that he/she is a financial member (The person should not be owing).
    4. Anyone who acts a s your referee, and who is a registered advertising practitioner, should not be defaulting in his/her financial obligations.
  7. You should not fail to sign and date your application.
  8. You should not fail to affix a passport-size photograph, except you are applying for upgrading.
  9. Applicants for upgrading are expected to accompany their completed forms with payment (which includes registration fee, etc). Failure to do so renders an application invalid.
  10. You should endeavour to notify us immediately of any change in your contact address.
  11. Please carefully go through the special instructions before filling the form.
  12. The accompanying pre-application questionnaire should be carefully filled, signed and dated.
  13. Take note of your application number and do remember to quote it in all correspondence/inquires on the application.
  14. Endeavour to pick up your referees' letters 48hours after submission of your application, failing which they would be mailed to your referees.

PRACTITIONER IN ADVERTISING

  1. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Application forms are treated only after the payment of the prescribed application fee in cash or bank draft to the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria.
    2. Before you fill this form, please acquaint yourself with the registration criteria as set out by the laws establishing the Council - Act. 55 of 1990, as amended by Act. 93 of 1992. Section 2 below provides details of the criteria.

  2. REGISTRATION Membership of the Profession
    The following are the qualifications acceptable for the registration of advertising practitioners:
    1. The APCON Diploma in Advertising
    2. The CIM or CAM Diploma in Advertising or Marketing
    3. An HND or a Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Mass Communication or Graphic Arts
    4. A recognised Post-Graduate Degree in any of the above disciplines
    5. Any other qualification approved by the Council

     

  3. PROFESSIONAL GRADES
    All entrants into the profession are registrable only as Associate Members. Other grades are attainable by upgrading. The following are the professional grades:
    1. Associate Membership
      Registration as an Associate Member of the Profession requires the possession of any of the qualifications listed above and the production of evidence of having those qualifications. The applicant must, in addition, be of good character, above 21 years of age and must have not been convicted for fraud or dishonesty.
    2. Full Membership
      Attainment of this grade of the profession requires having been an Associate Member in continuous active professional practice for not less than five years preceding the date of application for upgrading. In addition, the candidate must have met all his/her financial and other obligations to APCON on a regular basis.
    3. Fellowship
      To become a Fellow, an Applicant must have been in continuous active professional practice for not less than fifteen years immediately preceding the date of application. In addition, he or she must have made significant contributions to the advertising profession and must have met all financial obligations to APCON on a regular basis.

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

  2. REGISTRATION
    1. Student Membership

      A person is entitled for registration as a Student Member of the profession if he/she is undergoing a course of study leading to any of the following qualifications in an institutions approved by the council:

      1. The APCON Diploma in Advertising
      2. The CIM or CAM Diploma in Advertising or Marketing
      3. An HND or a Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Mass Communication or Graphic Arts
      4. A recognised Post-Graduate Degree in any of the above disciplines
      5. Any other qualification approved by the Council
    2.  Associate Membership
      Upon completion of the course and the receipt of a certificate, Student Member may apply for upgrading to Associate Membership of the profession. The Applicant must, however, meet all other criteria for registration.
